The Artima Developer Community

This is probably one of the most underappreciated web resources out their today. Bill Venners has done an excellent job of bringing to together the top minds in programming to discuss everything that you would have questions about. Fair warning about this site though is that once you get sucked in expect to lose a […]

Design cross-platform Java UIs with native performance

The biggest knocks against Java have always been performance (loading the JVM takes ages it seems) and its ugly UIs. Why these issues have not been tackled properly years ago is way beyond my intellect, but IBM is finally stepping up and taking charge.
C once again proves its durability and usefulness as a language that […]

The Semantic Web: 1-2-3

If I had enough money where I didn’t have to worry about bringing more in this would be the field that I would be playing around in. The semantic web holds so many possibilities, yet very few individuals have been able to bring its concept into reality. Whether you believe this is the future or not […]

256 Processors and 1 OS

Who knew that SGI was even still around? Well, the cool thing is they have come up with a computer that will be capable of running the new Doom3 and Half-Life2 (if that ever comes out) at acceptable framerates.
This really is a pretty sweet piece of technology.

XSLT Intellisense for Visual Studio .NET

I’m currently in the process of learning XSLT, and having intellisense definitely helps out with that process. While Visual Studio doesn’t ship with intellisense for XSLT, now you can download the XSLT schema, and Visual Studio can use it to generate intellisense for you.

SQL Server Web Admin Tool

This is definitely something that I could have used in the past. Basically, it’s a lightweight tool for administering a SQL Server or MSDE installation. While SQL Server does come with the Enterprise Manager (which is a great tool in and of itself), MSDE doesn’t, sometimes you want something that isn’t as over-the-top […]

512MB Kingston Data Traveler 2.0

2cpu.com has a review of the new Kingston Data Traveler 2.0. Even though the form of the little device is pretty slick and sexy, the whole gold thing just would not work for me at all. Would clash against every outfit that I own, silver on the other hand…

Daily Builds Are Your Friends

One thing I can freely admit about geeks is that we are either paranoid or cocky. The cocky types do not worry about backing up data or performing daily builds on our software. Well Joel explains why in daily builds are an essential part of any programming project.

XML-RPC.Net

Microsoft’s .Net comes with some pretty slick libraries that let you tackle Web Services and XML. However, it does lack in its use of XML-RPC and that is where this site comes in.
On the other end of the specturm (kinda), it seems that Ximian is doing some killer work with the Mono project. Just as […]

Advanced Bash Scripting

Something that I need to develop better skills at since it comes in very handy during some tight situations. Shame not all unix variants use the same shell so that it could be universal, even though I guess Bash might be considered as universal as one could get.

A Fresh Look at Perl Sorting

I am not going to pretend I understand this stuff because I just do not do Perl. But I figured it could come in handy for a lot of people who actually mess with that cruddy language (hey, hey, just joking).
