When the Teaser Trailer premiered last year, everyone thought it was just an April Fool’s joke due to some bad timing. Well, they were wrong!
With an Official Website and a Trailer for the first episode, “Damashita! Power Puff Girls Z” (”Take-Off! Power Puff Girls Z”) is all set to premiere in Japan Saturday, July 1st at 7am.
Based on the Cartoon Network blockbuster cartoon created by Craig McCracken, the Powerpuff Girls were a tremendous hit in Japan (obviously). Whether this new Magical Girl Anime will stay with the continuity of the American cartoon or not is as yet unknown. But by the looks of Professor Utonium in the trailer material, I doubt it.
No news yet on if or when this show will make it to the states. But personally, if it does, I’d like them to maintain the original voice actors from the cartoon. They had a fantastic cast assembled there and bringing them back might lessen the alienating blow American fans are feeling toward this Japanese rendition of the series.
And if you’re really excited about this project, and for some reason you haven’t heard of this site yet, then I highly suggest you take a stroll on down to Powerpuff Girls Doujinshi, a fantastic webcomic many fans believe inspired Power Puff Girls Z.

3Unfortunately, it looks like a generic shoujo anime. It doesn’t pop, I feel.

4Yeah, but that’s the problem with the Magical Girl genre in general; it’s hard to find real diversity.
The only thing I really look forward to in this show is seeing all the characters redesigned, though Bleedman has set the bar pretty high in that category.

5I agree — just seeing how it’s different will be interesting.
