AT&T and Apple Announce iPhone Rate Plans!

Well, the Apple community breathed a collective sigh of relief today, as Apple and AT&T announced the rate plans for the iPhone. Apple Gazette has a price break down, and basically it’s their basic voice service plus unlimited Internet and 200 txt messages for an additional $20 a month. It’s a really good deal, and the best pricing on these types of plans that AT&T has ever offered.

From the press release:

All iPhone monthly service plans are available for individuals and families and are based on a new two-year service agreement with AT&T. Individual plans are priced at $59.99 for 450 minutes, $79.99 for 900 minutes and $99.99 for 1,350 minutes. All plans include unlimited data (email and web), Visual Voicemail, 200 SMS text messages, roll over minutes and unlimited mobile-to-mobile and a one-time activation fee of $36. Family plans are also available.

Actually, no. It’s their standard rate for celphones, with their midrange data package added in.

$39.99 for 450 minute plan (”Nation 450 with Rollover”)
$59.99 for 900 minute plan (”Nation 900 with Rollover”)
$79.99 for 130 minute plan (”Nation 1350 with Rollover”)

+ $20 for unlimited data + 200 text messages (”MEdia Max 200 Bundle”).

Actually, according to AT&T Reps, Media Max does not work with Smartphones, only cellphones running the “mobile web”. PDA-styled phones are required to have Data Plan packages that start at $34.95 a month and up.

And smartphones don’t have text messaging plans. They’re positioning the iphone as a normal cel, not a PDA.
