Steve Jobs just sold 45% of his company shares, according to the Register.
Apple Computer founder and CEO Steve Jobs sold 45 per cent of his Apple stock this week. Jobs sold 4.57m shares at a price of $64.66, netting him a cool $295m.
Here are some details on the trade at Yahoo! Finance.
The question is why? Is Steve seeing something we’re not? Will the Intel-based Macintoshes be flukes? Is Apple’s future as a company bleak? I mean when the chief executive of a company seemingly on the rise sells a huge chunk of company shares, that doesn’t forebode anything good.
Or perhaps Steve is planning to create yet a new startup, like what he did when he founded Pixar and NeXT after being ousted from Apple in the early 1990’s. Your guess is as good as mine.

2Ah. So he basically returned the stock to the company and used the proceeds to pay almost US$ 300M in taxes? I’d sure want to be in Jobs’ shoes. Even if he weren’t filthy rich, he’s still among the most powerful in the tech world.

3maybe he just wanted to roll around in mad amounts of cash? I know I would if I had it

4Well, can’t you see a slow market ahead?
The tech market is way over sold. (Don’t blame me: Google at $80 to $400 and then out because that’s way too much on any kind of fundamentals.)
If you don’t know the roller coaster just stopped, well, don’t blame me.
New market starts in the new decade. It’ll be a real scorcher. And the later it starts, the better. The first jump could be all catch up for the 00’s and still be something like 30% increase across the board.
I like it.
(Hey, SJ! Nice move. And nice way to get out of the commodity business: that said in anticipation of your next important “one more thing.)

6Or maybe he wants to invest the money in something else, something he thinks might have a higher ROI (return on investment).

17Loyal apple fan here, UNTIL they screwed me for the last time. I started with a 128k Mac, last year bought a 20″ iMac. Then what happened they switch to intel, and make all my software and machines orphans. I’m done, I’ve had it. I think they have shot themselves in the foot for the last time. There business will be iTunes and iPods. Why but an expensive apple when you can get a peecee for one half the price?
