Digg Army: Right in Line

So while I was on the site today, I noticed two frontpage diggs for A List Apart. Also a wonderful site, it piqued my interest how both were submitted by
So opening the two pages in separate tabs, I scrolled down to the bottom. The first story looked like this:
The second story looked like this:
Lo and behold, the first sixteen diggs for each story were identical! If we remove bribera from one of them, the first nineteen diggs were identical for both stories. In fact, of the first 24 diggs, only 2 users varied for both stories. Hey, even Digg-founder Kevin Rose is seen there.
The one blog entry for each post was by the same person also, but we can chalk
that up to coincidence.

3Wow — I just posted this story on Digg and got banned right away.
I emailed Digg and they said I violate the TOS be “accusing” members of abusing digg. Simply for posting the link to this story.

10Darn. I’ve seen this before, actually, and it was on a highly suspicious story some months ago. I should have saved the details. The number of digs were extremely high for a story just submitted, made the front page, and Kevin _AND_ diggnation were among the first approvers. Kind of odd on the diggnation since they only approve something, historically, that has gotten an extreme # of diggs.

11I use Digg, let me just say this is very un-”Web 2.0.” If Digg is going to be taking investment money for their concept of editor-free, truly democratic choosing of stories, then they should practice what they preach, otherwise, what’s the point? We might as well post/read somewhere else.

12I too noticed some scandal on Digg. A screenshot of a new tag cloud feature showed an article I posted, “Apple Robs Its Customers: The iPod Settlement Scan” as being very popular. However, the post was soon buried to the bottom of the pile. Under pressure from Apple to supress bad publicity?

13You know why the same people dugg that story first? Because A List Apart is a great site with great content. It’s quite obvious that ALA fans dugg the submissions on the mention of the site’s name alone. They came across two submitted ALA articles and quickly decided to digg both. It’s not rocket science, you know.

15You not what I find interesting is that a lot of the “users” names replaced some of their letters for example “the answ3r”, “spitf1re”, “und3rworld” and “insomn1a”. Also, I don’t believe this myself really, but kevin rose digging this could be a complete coindence I mean he’s probably a very active digger. Assuming these two articles were submited right after each other he could’ve been in digg spy seen the two articles dugg them right after each other. It is possible.

17Yeah I really don’t think my explanation holds much water. Anyhoo, I am now a little confused I thought that these stories were dugg in the same order, although it kinda maybe makes sense. Also something else interesting: amar’s http://digg.com/users/Amar account has not yet been deleted while all the other users involved have been deleted.

Maybe they were just ALA fans, maybe they were just friends tracking each other, maybe they eacht spotted the stories inside the queue or the spy, just after the guy submitted them, whatever.
I really don’t understand what the big deal is.
