Mtv Movie Blog is on the ball today. Blogger Shawn Adler has taken a few pieces of information from around the web, a quote from Jeff Bridges and all but confirmed the villain of the film to be Iron Monger.
Now, at Comi-Con last year Mandarin was was confirmed to be the villain in the film, but thus far, there has been no casting for the character. One character that has been cast, however, is Obadiah Stane…who is played by Jeff Bridges. In the comics, Obadiah, a former mentor of Tony, eventually turns against him and becomes the Iron Monger. An act that leads Tony to alcoholism and temporarily ends his career as Iron Man.
He is replaced by his friend Jim Rhodes (played by Terrence Howard), who later becomes War Machine after Tony reclaims the Iron Man mantle. Now, they have confirmed that the second film will feature the alcoholism storyline as well as the War Machine armor…so it all adds up pretty well…then there is this quote from Bridges…..
When asked if he would become Iron Monger this past weekend Jeff Bridges looked surprised, saying to MTV, “Uh, I might, I might,” before catching himself and adding “but, on the other hand, I probably don’t.” We’ll give him credit for the quick reversal, but it’s his initial answer that gives us pause.
So I think it’s pretty clear that we can expect to see Iron Monger in the film…

1There are plenty of spy footage on the web that actually shows the Iron Monger costume throwing around cars, etc. Yes, of course Iron Monger is in the film!
