As revealed at the Comic Book Resource, Sony Pictures Television will be releasing a brand new Spider-Man animated series direct-to-video in order to tie-in with the upcoming Spider-Man 3 live action film.
No word on whether this will be a continuation of the Mainframe Studios-animated “Mtv’s Spider-Man”, which was released a few years back to tie-in with the release of the first Spider-Man live action film. The series ended on a cliffhanger, leaving many fans wanting more. Chances are slim, though, that this new series will follow that continuity considering how poorly received the show was.

1The MTV thing was a huge disappointment but so was the 1980s one. However, all Spider-man is good Spider-Man, except they can forget villains like Rocket Racer and whatever and just stick with hot chicks who wear black tights.

2My biggest beef with the Mtv series, aside from the purple pants (WTF?) was the lack of villains from the comic. They did an okay job with Electro, but Silver Sable and Kraven were pretty poorly done, and the Lizard was killed off in one episode. Hopefully this new show will give us what we want; villains galore.
