The French have approved the use of cell phone jammers for theaters, movie houses, and concert halls to block cell phone signals inside their buildings.
This is the greatest thing in the world and I very strongly hope that it happens in the US eventually. There is absolutely nothing more infuriating than paying $8 to see a movie, only to have it ruined by some ass with a cell phone two rows behind you. I’d love to see cell phones jammed inside every building actually. As much as I love technology and gadgets, I absolutely despise cell phones. Actually it’s not fair to hate cell phones, but I do hate the way many people use them, or perhaps abuse them would be more appropriate. I mean seriously, is it too much to ask to keep the damn thing on vibrate? Or to not use it while you are waiting in line at the grocery store, or ordering your dinner? I don’t think so, and I don’t understand why people seem to have such a hard time understanding simple cell phone etiquette.
[/end rant] :)
In case your mom didn’t teach you how to behave in public or use a cell phone, here are some “tips”:http://www.google.com/search?q=cell+phone+etiquette&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official

1I think this idea is horrible for the simple reason of safety. What if something happens inside the theater and people get hurt or trapped??

2Well in that situation if the only way to safety is through the use of a cellphone the French have a lot more to worry about than people talking on their phones during a performance.

3The one stipulation of the law is that emergency calls can still get through, it says in the article. But yeah, I imagine people would deal with any emergencies the way they did 10 years ago before cell phones were popular… They might just have to leave the theater and go outside or to a pay phone *gasp*.
