From Lewis Powell comes this hilariously sad tale of deception and deceit with IM over a 4 year period.
Now, I don’t have the best memory in many respects, but associating a semi-random string of characters with a person I know to an arbitrary degree of familiarity, is something I am particularly bad at. Hell, I can hardly remember my screenname, let alone someone else’s. As a result, its not entirely uncommon for me to receive an instant message from a mystery name, and not know who it is.
Gotta love geeks and their wonderful ability to interact with strangers.

1That’s great. It also accounts for why my first question to someone whose screenname I don’t recognize is “Do I know you?”. It’s not the friendliest, but it does the job.
