Toshiba has announced today the very first commercial HD-DVD player, the HD-XA1.
The features are pretty basic, but then again, there’s not much room for improvement in video players, unless you make a console out of one, or vice-versa.

The player will be released April 27th for 795 USD and will support the 30 GB HD-DVDs as well as the 1080-720p resolution.
So the race is now officially on. So what will it be folks, a 30GB HD-DVD video player for 800 bucks or wait for the 360’s HD-DVD add-on, or wait for the PS3 which will, hopefully, be released this Christmas. *knocks on wood*

1How much better quality does HD-DVD actually
produce compare to DVD ?
Even if the difference is as much as we noticed
between VHS and DVD, who’s going to pay close to a grand to get this….?
I presume the price will drop dramatically once the race goes on for a while… but still…
Can’t help but to think that we are in the
cosumer trade mill created by multi cooperations…
800doller to play a movie?
that’s just plain too much.

2What i don’t understand is why do they make them so big im sure the tecnology is there to make the HD-DVD player smaller. If somebody is going to spend a gran on this they should at least be getting something that looks good.
