Forget Dual Processor, I Accept Nothing Less Than 96

Start-up Orion Multisystems has begun shipping computers for those engineers, graphic designers and biologists who need 96 processors and 192GB of memory at their desks.

How they are able to control the heat and noise from that thing I have no idea, but gimme a chance to play a game that can utilize all 96 processors and I’m in.

Though these 96-processor workstations start at $100,000…

Errr, maybe not.

Ehh, or you could get a 64 Processor ES7000 with 32 Xeon and 32 Itanium 2 processors and 320 GB of RAM. That’s one helluva game server…

That thing is a beast, reading further it says:

“…plus as many as 42 blade servers (PDF 240kb) for your web/edge tier…”

si you can put servers in this thing as upgrades! I know what I want for christmas.

The problem with having that many processors is that as you pass the 2nd processor, programs aren’t written to work with more than just two processors. All that extra is for running multiple programs at the same time, not for one large one. Better luck with a cluster.
