Vudu is going to go head to head with the AppleTV this summer. What is Vudu? Well, right now I’m not 100% sure. It looks slick, it has major backing from former Apple and Tivo employees, and is going to launch with THOUSANDS of movies available for it this summer.
Now, will they be rentals? Will it be a subscription model with “all you can eat” access? Will it have DVR? These are all good questions, and I don’t know the answers to any of them, but you can rest assured, that we will be keeping a close eye on it here.
For right now, Gizmodo has the first details.

1This box is really, really exciting. At first, I thought the NYTimes piece was a bit extreme, but now I’m feeling the same way. This just sounds cool.
And looks cool — both the box and the UI.
It will be interesting to see how this thing compares with the Apple TV, and how Apple responds to it. I think the competition will be good for consumers.
These boxes will really give attention to what Shelly Palmer calls “over the top” delivery.
In other words, the cable company is in trouble.

Agreed. The cable companies are definitely in trouble. Netflix is in trouble too if this thing can deliver movies to me on a subscription model…and Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are in trouble if it can do it in HD.
It’s a very exciting time to be into this stuff.
