Motorola have finally decided to move on from their very successful RAZR series and introduce a new one called SCPL (”scalpel”) which will be powered by a completely new Linux-based Operative System.

The first model of this series will be a low end model that focuses on being as simple and intuitive as possible. Motorola officials have claimed that the phone might perhaps go for sale for $50 when it reaches the US.

So basically, they’re introducing a cheap, Linux-based cellphone that’s simple to use… sounds like a winning formula to me. That same formula did wonders for Nokia a few years back with the 3210 and 3310, so perhaps it will also help Motorola eat up another slice of the cellphone market.
