I haven’t been playing my Rock Band game as much lately because of all the reports I’ve read online about the drum pedal snapping in two. The pedal is made of plastic and based from the way it’s constructed, vigorous use of the pedal will really make it break. I’ve been trying to find a way to DIY my pedal by attaching a metal pad on the pedal to reinforce the whole thing but I’m not much of a handy man.
Fortunately I met a guy online who was making custom Rock Band pedals using a magnetic switch and a real drum pedal. To say that a drum pedal is sturdy is an understatement. I can use the damn thing as a weapon if I want to. The great thing about using this sturdy pedal is that I don’t have to worry about breakage. I just kick pedal in complete abandon. This has radically improved the way I play and I’m pretty sure I’ll become more adept at the drums because of my new gadget.
Now if I can just find a way of modding my temperamental Rock Band guitar…

1Does this “guy” have a website? I wouldn’t mind having a beefy pedal m’self.

3I had the same problem. The way I fixed mine is to get a semi thin piece of aluminum, and I used a bunch of rivets to hold it in place. It’s sturdy, has a bit of a bend to it, and can take a lot of stomping.

4You can search via YouTube and find alot of DIY videos of modifying the pedal so it becomes sturdier. I did the same exact thing as you guys. I first went through EA and got 2 replacement plastic pedals for free.
By the 3rd time, I got a bit sick of worrying about breaking the stupid thing and having to wait longer for EA to get back to me with an RMA.
Take it from someone who went through it and you can do 1 of 2 things.
1. Play softer so you don’t put any pressure on the weak center point above the spring.
2. Go buy an aftermarket pedal that is solid metal or an authenticate bass drum pedal that has been converted to work with RB
I opted for door #2 and after alot of searching found a site called http://www.pedalmasters.com and bought mine there. Why them? Most of the pedals were pretty close to the same, I didnt need or want to spend the extra $$$$ for a full blown pedal. Instead, pedalmasters had:
1. only one to offer different color selection ( I liked blue)
2. their price was the best $25 vs. $29 compared to the others
Trust me, been there done that…

5Thanks Bro,
Almost was about to do the cheap fixes via Youtube. Actually was planning on doing the butter knife.
I picked up a pedal from your pedalmasters guy and also got a complimentary set of metal drumsticks to match. SWEET FREE STUFF.
Good investment, $25 for a pedal and sticks.
