And… what more can I say about it, other than that it will be bashed more than Sony’s PS3 boomerang controller was by online comics everywhere. Up until now, everyone from this side of the ocean, and the other, were excited about it. However, ever since the name was announced, I’ve started to see many comments on people having second thoughts about buying, only due to it’s name:

Perhaps people are mistaken about Nintendo and their “kiddyish” image and they are hoping to mature their audience with their release. Think about it, right now people are playing with their GameCubes and Gameboys, a few months from now (possibly a year) they will be playing with their “Wees”.
I know. That was horrible.
I promise I won’t do that again.

1I wonder what made them change the name. I always thought “revolution” was a kickass name.

5Wow. People are actually stupid enough to not buy a console because of the name?
April 28th, 2006 at 2:07 pm
6No, it’s meant to sound like “we” as in a group of people. A spokesman said some mumbo jumbo about the console breaking the barrier between gamers and non-gamers. Or something like that…

7Wii can’t be the real name. Coz just think how freaked out everyone’s now gonna be at E3 when they show the showcase video and it comes up as the ‘Nintendo Revolution’. Let it be known, I predicted it first!

8first it was wang and now it’s wii.
lost in translation.

9Would be nice PeanuT if it wasn’t for the TM next to the name.
I gotta admit, that would be cool: “Wii? Just pulling your leg, we are naming it Revolution”

10I plan to buy one since I yell WHEEEEEEEEEEEEE! all the time, especially playing Mario Kart.
I think Nintendo should utilize a mic as they do for the DS and when you shout WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEE you should gain boosts, like speed boosts in Mario Kart and other such things.

11At least in the American market, the name Wii is not a very strong name and doesn’t sound particularly Nintendo-like either. Personally, I liked “GameCube,” which was the most atypical Nintendo console appellation to date. (Its predecessors were plainly named, but I never found this disconcerting in the least.) “Wii,” outside of the adolescent imagery that it conjures in many, takes that unusualness a bit further to outright bizarre, even with an explanation holding it up in an attempt at justification. I think it demonstrates how Nintendo is shifting their focus away from the hardcore gamer. Which is fine by me as long as they treat the casual gamer (read: me) well. We’ll see.

Yes, Sven. Absolutely. That much and more. Don’t you ever doubt it.

12Ok im laughing but still am not averted away from the console infact im more intrested in why the hell the named it Wii but to all those non believers this is the actual name and if they change it prior release i wouldnt be suprised but i think the main reason for the change would have probably been confilcting issues with the X-Box 360 because i think (IM NOT SURE) X-BOX 360 was going to be called revoloution and also 360 Degrees equals a revoloution. hahaha im still very intrested especially if it has a giro scope in the controller i wonder how that will feel and look.
