Hot on the heels of the news that the Sims 2 has already old a million copies in just 10 days we have a great testosterone filled review by the Ars crew. They offer a the Alpha Male geeks perspective on this gaming phenomenon and try to answer the question of why in the hell is the game so popular?
I tried the original Sims, and was initially intrigued but it quickly turned into a bathroom and shower simulator. I found myself checking the need to go to the bathroom a lot more often than playing the game, and it got old fast. It didn’t last long on my hard drive.
Sounds like my experience with the first one.

After a few more hours I felt lost and frustrated, there wasn’t anything I had to do. I got up, made some meals, cleaned up after myself, and mostly sat around. In the middle of the night, William, the youngest in the family, tried to make a snack and died in the fire. The grim reaper showed up, left an urn, and then made a check on his list.
Hmmm, sounds about as entertaining as it gets.
This really is a game that everyone can get into, and can be a very interesting psychological exercise. I became fascinated by what the game did, and the seemingly endless little animations and interactions between the Sims and their world. I was even more fascinated by how I played the game and reacted to what my characters did.
So it looks like this is a game that even an uber male geek can enjoy. Looks like I will have to buy it…for my mother this Christmas.

3The sims is a good game, it’s great, and you people who say that people who play on it are sad,and have no lives, must be pretty pathatic yourself, you mustn’t have a life, if all you do is go on the net and say how bad and pathatic the sims is. I only came on here to say that.x

6Well i personaly like the sims i spend at least half my day playing it but sometimes it does get borings but after a few weeks you’r crazy to play ahain well atleast for me plus the game isnt only of feeding ur sims cleaning up and taking care of their needs. The game is actually quite good including that im my sisters school it is required to play for health. So it also has an educational side to it. And nmot only geeks play beause look at me im your regular volleyball chick and i play so for the people who say only geeks play you better think again. oo F.Y.I. The Sims2 has gotten over 10 million dollars in just the game no expansion packs or anything in the U.S.

8I play Sims2 at least 3 hours a day. Instead of watching soaps on television, I control my own soap opera.

14Personally I love the sims2 and play on it all the time. It has a lot of scope, and can be really fun. But I have to agree that after a while you can get yourself into a routine, just doing the same thing every day (get up, go to bathroom, shower, cook, go to work etc.) and it gets a little, well, dull.
