Final Fantasy Advent Children

What self-respecting game geek has never heard of Squaresoft aka Square Enix’s Final Fantasy franchise? The game has already spawned several offshoots and its twelfth incarnation is already in progress, solidifying the oxymoron of the name.
Its movie spin-off, Final Fantasy: Spirits Within, was a box-office flop for its dead-eyed CG characters and flimsy story line. However, despite this set-back, it hasn’t stopped their master CG movie makers from trying their hand at more cinematic Final Fantasy.
Enter Final Fantasy: Advent Children, a sequel of sorts to the wildly popular Final Fantasy 7 game (which is arguably the best Final Fantasy in terms of game play, music and story, next to FF6). While it’s being slated to be direct-to-DVD, it’s generating the buzz of a fanboy hyped theatre release. The official website has a 4 minute trailer for us to drool on, and for those who don’t understand Japanese, there’s a bit-torrent link to a movie containing both the fan subtitled version of the trailer and the American-release trailer. IMDB also has an official listing of the movie which names all the Japanese voice actors. Let’s hope the American dubbed version is half-way decent, else just default to the English subtitled version.

1I think this movie will be a lot more better than previous attempts. Based upon one of the best selling Playstaion games around, it’s definatly destined to be a hit. But you can’t be too sure video game movie adaptions being hits now a days.

2Next to FF6 “ARE YOU KIDDING!” Final Fantasy 7 is the best, its even better then Final Fantasy 6. I have 4-8, 10, and 11. Before saying anything about any of the Final Fantasy series, try a pole that ask for reasons why they made that choice.

3Next to FF6 was my personal comment. Having played both, I still found the storyline and characters in FF6 more endearing than in FF7. That’s a personal opinion. No, I haven’t read scientific polls or read any research on the subject, but within my pool of friends, they’re almost always torn over which their favourite was: FF6 or 7.

4“Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within ” is the best 3D graphic film ever. Sublime scene! The cartoon effect is lifelike. The story line is superb, the heroine is very beautiful.
In this film, I love the people’s sensation and scene.

6Best games, Final fantasy 7(for sure) the only final fantasy game I really enjoyed other than maybe 8 and 9…(FFXI is the worst for sure being a beta tester for it and all), Half-life 1 + 2, Need for speed underground 2, Doom Series(espeacially 3), Bood + blood 2 the chosen, root(best shooter ever tooked me 5 years to beat the 1000 levels with 20 bosses and the (last supposibly impossible to beat boss was beaten by me in 12 hours) and somewhere at the 1999th place final fantasy 6!!!!!!!!!!

12Final Fantasy 7 is the best game ever made, closely followed by in my opinion Final Fantasy 8. Final Fantasy 7 put final fantasy on the map again after the change onto playstation. Absorbing storyline, excellent characters and an excellent system and music collection! Who doesnt love Aeris/Aerith!! And Sephiroth!!! No better villian!!!

16hey guys, did you hear about how xbox lovers think that ps3 was going to be knocked out by Halo 3? gosh these people are really stupid. THe one and only reason(and a couple others) that Ps3 wont get knocked out is because of final fantasy and that is a fact. Xbox will NEVER get a hold of final fantasy. well give me feedback on what you think of this statement.

19FF7 wasn’t greater than 6 in story, length, character design, or gameplay. If you think about it, the materia system lets you use any character you want to produce the same effect. In battle the differences between them were limits, models, and starting stats.
Spirits within disappointed me with its lack of depth, purely a graphical gem, and nothing that made the series strong (character development for one)
to james: congrats on beating 5-10, hopefully you’ll find something else to talk about besides bragging about video games in your later years.
Halo 3 will likely dent the PS3s sales as many gamers are looking forward to it, and the Xbox 360 is comming out first too, most people dont like forking 800+ bucks over for 2 consoles, so they’ll likely stick with one or the other. Besides that the Xbox has already had some time to move around and make connections, meaning more games probably. I’ll stick with my PS2, PC, and SNES personally. They’re enough to last til i’m 80 anyway.

20FFC, i am extreamly sure that I read on either square enix’s site or on a highly trustable site that D of C was comming out on the PsP I could be wrong though. As for which FF game is the best, well there are several that tie in my opinion, 7,8,9,10 and possibly 10-2, i havent finished that one yet. AC shuld be one kickass movie though if the graphics are even better then spirits within.

24I think it’s a bummer that FFXI is coming to Xbox 360. It doesn’t seem likely to me that they would get anymore money from their funding due to sever customer complains.
P.S. Yes i play FFXI but it is getting boring they should spend money to make it better.

25FFXI will come out for xbox 360 simply because ps3 will be a year late. then for a year we wait and itll be right back to the playstation.

I would do ANYTHING to see this game remade. Not on the PS2…cuz the graphic difference wouldn’t be worth a complete game remake…(look at FFX) but on ps3…OMG they would make a KILLING in sales and satisfy SO MANY final fantasy gamers. WTF ARE THEY THINKING.
THEY’LL BE FOOLS IF THEY DONT REMAKE THIS GAME.

28Has Any of you ever seen the Animatrix DVD??? the first title on it is the final flight of the osiris it was made by square usa and the motion and detail not to mention realism was far advanced even to spirits within (pitty short length)… i desperatley anticipate a euro release of FFVII-AD and the other new FFVII francises (cc,bc.ect) i am also interested to see other mmorpg’s from S-E similar to ffXI (Sa-Ga online is shit)
i like to proudly boast that i have all original copies (incl carts) of the FF series and the seiken densetu series…lucky me

29Just my opinion, I think FF7 and FF8 were equal. Loved the music, story and gameplay. I hope they make a sequel or prequel for ff8 too.

30final fantasy 7 started the demise of the series, i donÂŽt want lots machine guns in my adventure, or empty characters as cloud (a really cheap copy of Son Goku from dragon ball, i loved much more Yoshikata AmanoÂŽs designs).
Take final fantasy 6 put better graphics & youÂŽll get a masterpiece, even the music surpass 7 by tons (considering that is a catdrige music & not cd even make it more amazing!).
Also final fantasy 4 is recommended.

Gotta add that after 6, the only ff worthy is
FF9! Got back that little innocence in the characters & world.
FF7/8/10 one can easily see that them were aimed at american market, wich can be impressed with 3d graphics & “cool drawings of cliché japanimation” (wich of course would work on japanese audience as well) (also the very bad FF movie, wich had nothing to do with final fantasy, but had things in common with ff7 (the mood of things, technology, etc,)rather than the excelent art of Yoshikata Amano & the amazing music that Nobuo Uematsu brought to ff4,5,6 for example, go & download an emulator, play those, smoke some weed & travel my friend :PP

32You guys suck i completed every final fantasy game from the original ones from japan to the re-release of 1 and 2 on the gba and cant wait to beat #12. I have beat ff1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, tactics, tactics advance, origins, and every other ff game there is including the chocobo dungeons and racing ones! I am only 13 to! Once and for all Final Fantasy 7 is the best still even better than 8, 9, 10, 11, and any other to come!

36Hmm. The earlier statement regarding Tetsuya Nomura’s questionable artwork can be of course corroborated by many who felt that the series’ designers were insane with the unlikely election of Nomura for character art, but, on the same token, there’s a kernel of redemption in there; Amano seems to have done some original sketches/sumizuri-e for 7 that were never used and thus far haven’t been released–for the most part. Some of his artbooks contain a gem or two, most notable an Amano rendition of Tifa. Given the lack of direction with the 7 project, and the fact that Amano had a heavy hand in the storyline, I personally tend to look at it as an Amano game, regardless of Nomura’s brushwork.
As for the movie, you have to admit that the floating worlds and pirates have been capitalized by Hayao Miyazaki, which is, aside from the fundamentally firearm-based nature of the early playstation games, a reason why Square went in that direction and made a game like FF7 in the first place. At least all of their character tropes clung to the new style.

37I agree with you all about how awesome it is that FFVII: Advent Children is coming out as a movie, but i have recently heard of FFVII:Dirge of CEREBUS, and also a FFVII “mini” game on a cell phone?, not to mention a FFVII game coming out on the PSP, which really makes you stop and wonder…”Aren’t they making too much out of FFVII?” I think its prety cool, but seeing how they are “overmaking” my favorite game of all time, it just seems too much…anybody agree with me?

40Final Fantasy: Spirits Within was not a Final Fantasy movie. It was just another CG movie that they tagged Final Fantasy to sell more copies. Its like making an action movie and calling it Die Hard just because the character has a lot to get through.

45i’ve played ff6 yet i didnt enjoy it bc i was spoiled by the graphics from 7 and up. i would have to base my opinion that number 8 was the best, bc u know we didnt have any messed up fuckers(from caitsith - moogles) which were pretty cool but just got annoying. 7 was great though now we have to many fags going around saying Sephiroth is awsome, when i bet them my counsual that they say this bc they hear it from other people. posers…

487 had the potential to be the best but you can tell it was never properly finished. My personal favorite is Final Fantasy 4. Actually it’s probably Tactics. After that their is a lot. I really enjoyed 10, but the voice acting stunk and I didn’t like the ending. 8 was really a good game, they just needed a different magic system. 9 stunk. It was too cartoony and I didn’t enjoy the story. 6 was also a great game.

50errrr dudes lets get one thing straight here….all you fools who think cloud has no depth are wrong hes probably the most in depth character on any ff game i mean think about it the whole thing where you find out about him “being” a clone when actually he is real. that stuff is awesome i like the way they did it. 62Ah, its times like these I wish i knew japanese. I’ve seen roughly half of the movie, watching with wide eyed amazement at the beauty and fluidity of the film, laughed at little gamer jokes that you dont need to break a language barrier to understand (Cellphones in churches… tee hee)I’m hoping I can pick up a subbed edition soon, because well, allow me to be fan girly, but FFVII was the first RPG I ever played and it holds special place in my heart, and I have been waiting for years for this movie. So far, I have no been dissapointed.

66I find that watching the movie about 4 times would extract everything FF AC has to offer. The story could be taken from the various comebacks made by Septiroth, explaining the reasoning of Jenova, the Reunion, and probably everything else that was practically not explained in FF VII.
Basically the purpose of this movie is to fill in a gap that FF VII left behind. I’m sure most of the fans and people who played FF VII had a ton of questions on the storyline, and mainly thats due to how incomplete FF VII was. But this, was the charming factor of the game that made it so great, as it left so many questions unanswered, until most of them are answered in Advent Children and in the Compilation of FFVII (Dirge of Cerebus, Crisis Core (the cell phone game comming out in Japan which I’m interested in)).
The only unanswered questions are: What is Red XIII and who does Cloud choose (I have a better idea of this now after watching it).
I played FF1 - FF7, the Gameboy FF’s, the Gameboy Advanced FF’s but I probably anticipated this movie more than any FF game.

74There is so much to say about any Final Fantasy game. So I’ll just have to come back on that note. Here’s a couple of opinions though. I loved Final Fantasy VII, and I’ve seen Advent Children, which was totally fresh and appealing. =D 6 was actually fun, but I think often overlooked sometimes. Maybe they should remake 6 to satisfy the 6 lovers? Just a thought. 8 was really great too! Great detail, it was pretty good to work from a distraught image in FFVII, and make it a little more realistic, other than the fact that Squall was a jerk, but he was cool c(=
Tactics…had a phenomenal story line, very broad and thought out, nice clear capture of running the story line all together, a masterpiece as well as 7 (7 still the best), and I first heard of this from my cousin, because he loved the game so much. So I thought I’d play it, and I grew to liking it too. I still play the FF series to pass time, and I don’t think that’ll ever change. Thoughts anyone?

75ok seriously, guys stop saying, ffx sucked and 9 sucked it was too cartoony…every Final Fantasy Game is brilliant in it’s own way. Everyone has a different opinion. My opinion is…yes FINAL FANTASY VII was, is and always will be my favourite! But I loved every other Final Fantasy Also. 1-6 may have had old school graphics, but look at the storylines! Exspecially 4 and 6…and 7-11…They are all good in there own way! Tactics, Origins and the rest…they are all awesome games…Back to Final Fantasy VII, I know some of you disagree that it is the best Final Fantasy game…But the least you could do, is admit that it is probably the most popular in the series. 94The best FF games is 7 then 6 then 9.FF8 sucked it was too easy and the magic system was the worst ever.The characters at the end of the game where just too powerful.
FF9 was brilliant because every character had their unique abilities not like 7 and 8 that every character was basically the same without taking in count the stats and limits.
But i like FF7 more because of the story the character models and the music.

97Personally I thought FFIVj (II) was the most entertaining game in the entire series. FFVIj (III) was really, REALLY good. FFVII was the last Final Fantasy game I played and I liked it better than the previous ones, but I think that’s because it had a different setting than the others.
Tactics was way too long. FFV was uninteresting but the Job system was cool.

Well, I haven’t finished FF7 yet, but I can say, that it’s a pretty awesome game, but the fact that i’m playing it now, on a ps2 console, and that I didn’t play it at the time when it was NEW NEW NEW, makes it less of a thrill for me than i think it has been for many of you people and others. Spirits within, I must say had …Not much at all to do with the series, and other than it having good graphics shouldn’t really have been called Final Fantasy. Also, Final Fantasy 6 (or III) kicks ass and whoever thinks it doesn’t should check again, there are so many more abilities to learn in 6 than in 7 and the storyline is a lot more extensive. I tire of stories with lone villains who unleash terror on the world, and personally, I find the graphics of FF7 to be a hindrance to my enjoyment of the game. Then again, that has to do with the fact that I am playing it far later than its original release date and I can compare it to better graphic-ed games.
Kefka(FF6) is a really good villain as well, and though he be on the Snes, he’s one of the best villains in the series. also, I think that the FF8 card game kicks ass and it is the best thing they could have come up with for the game. I really would like it if Square could make an actual trading card game for it. (though people might rather they make one for the FF9 game, but I never played it) What with all the different anime and TC games (yugioh, duelmasters, magicthegathering, pokemon(it sucks), and all that,) then they could have different cards for the different countries in the world, just like in the game, and people could have different playing mats where some might have elemental symbols on them and some might not. And you could have rules that people like for the different regioons of the world. And so on…
Man, would that be fun

Also, I think that the extra stuff in ff7 (such as chocobo training and other stuff like that) was really badly placed, I mean, its only at the end of the game that you get to START traing chocobos and by this time, Weapon is flying around and blowing stuff up, (come on people, now is NOT THE TIME to be training chocobos!)
P.S. People, PLAY FRONT MISSION. I don’t care if you don’t have an emulator or anything, GET ONE Front mission one (SNES) may be long, but its battle sys is like tactics and the story really gets to you You really feel for the main Char. and the villain pisses you off a lot.

122I have good memories of final fantasy 7. Well,except for the fact i spilt soda on disc 2 and it dried and it formed a weird crust that didnt come off so i rebot final fantasy 7 but i steped on it….from then on when i was done with ff7 i put in a damn box! ! well anyways ff7 is th best and far far far better then my grammar.ff6 is awsome but ff7 goes off the scale in every department except graphics even back then they were considered only good,not great. i dont like chibi. ff6 i dont see how the story was better it was boring for the most part and i had no feel for any of the characters except terra and mog since they are the last of their kind……. im searching for a place to download full version of final fantasy 7 pc version, i havnt beat it since i was 9…..anyonek now any links !?

128I’m like #104,I played FF#7 long after it came out.Years after,in fact.You see,I played them in reverse.I started with X and worked my way down to VII before I managed to stop.I really enjoyed them all,X-2 as well,but I have to say that X was and still is my favorite.I must have played it a dozen times and every time the story and voice acting pull me right in.
