HL Fallout reports the versions of Half Life that will be available on retail and on Steam.
The Steam packages purchases begins next week but all the games, except CS:Source, won’t be available until the retail release. Notice that CS:Source will be released before HL2 and will be playable sometime next week. It’s being almost two years since I dropped my Counter Strike addiction, but I think that CS:Source is here to bring me back to sleepless nights drinking coffee and complaining about stupid campers/team killers :) .
The strange thing to notice is how Valve doesn’t seem to care about Vivendi’s threats of not releasing Half Life 2 for another 6 months. I’m really curious to see how things turn out.

1As I play condition zero, I had the chance to play cs:source in beta and it is much much better the counter strike and condition zero.
It is worth the money.

2Collector’s editions look nice (especially the Steam one), but 6CDs!? Why not go fully DVD like Far Cry?

3I believe it’s because some people still don’t have a DVD drive. But if you think about it, shipping Half Life 2 in CD is stupid. Computers that meet the minimum requirements for playing the game are likely to have a DVD drive, so it’s more like making sure that *everyone* can play the game (or at least install it ;-).

4I just purchased my copy of Half Life 2 today. Its Great, I Love It!! However I was disapointed to see that it doesn’t have a traditional multiplayer choice like HL 1 did. But what I do see is that on steam there is the Counter-Strike: Source and the Half-Life source. Well I already have the counter strike one because it was part of my retail package. However I do not have the Half Life 1- Source. When I check on steam about downloading it, or even purchasing it…it wants you to purchase a whole package…with everything. But I don’t need everything! I already have Half Life 2 and CS source. Does anybody know if they will allow you to download JUST the Half Life 1: Source ??? I wish I would’ve checked out steam first and ordered it that way… because the retail version I got was $54.99… and for $59 on steam you get the one with the Half Life 1 source. Anyway, just wondering if anyone knew about this. Thanks for any replies…

5Josh, you should be able to just upgrade to the silver package for an extra 10.99 and that will come with Half-Life 1: Source, and Day of Defeat: Source when it is released. Maybe the purchase screen is messed up or something, but i was able to upgrade and buy it for about $10
