Seems as if Ask Jeeves is trying to mirror Google’s actions. Not necessarily a bad idea, but let’s see if they get the implementation right.

In a blog posting, the search company’s EVP of technology revealed that the two companies got together last month to “discuss Ask Jeeves and mozilla.org working together and how Ask can make contributions to Mozilla that make sense.” Ask Jeeves is proposing a technology trade with the Mozilla Foundation: a Firefox-based Ask Jeeves browser in exchange for Jeeves’ desktop search tech (and a conditional draft pick or player to be named later).

I don’t know what the value of having a branded version of Firefox, but then again I don’t run a million-dollar company. Also have to wonder why Mozilla would even be interested in desktop search technology.
