According to this article on The Inquirer, Creative agreed to settle a lawsuit last year about misleading information on its Audigy and Extigy sound cards.
Creative claimed that the products in question could handle 24-bit audio at 96Khz indeed this was stated on the product boxes in bold letters, and in all advertising. But complaints filed in 2003 pointed out that this was only true in a very limited set of circumstances, and pretty much all of the audio passing through the cards would actually be processed at lower quality.

1Maybe it’s just me… but I kind of find the terms of this settlement to be pretty bad.
- Creative Labs screws you over with false advertising.
- People sue Creative Labs because this is total crap.
- Creative settles in such a way that you have to spend more money with them to get any restitution.

2Agreed. 60 bucks off your next purchase? Thats weak. Lawyers for both sides of the court room must have been working for Creative. This is more likely to drive sales than hurt the budget of creative…

3I just bought the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy Value in the retail box here in Jakarta for $50. I guess I can’t take it back to the shop because of this false advertising? Did Creative perhaps fix this problem? It looks new. I don’t think it is old stock or is it?
