One of the most critically lauded games last year was Crytek’s Crysis. It garnered a lot of awards from various gaming publications and websites because of its visual stunning graphics and fast, immersive gameplay. But despite all of the accolades. Crytek (makers of Crysis) was actually having some issues with the PC industry.
According to Crytek founder Cevat Yerli, the rampant piracy in the PC industry is really hurting the company, especially since, as Yerli shared, Crytek’s games looks to be pirated the most. This situation has led the company to reconsider its PC exclusivity policy. Yevat said that in the future it will not PC exclusive games like Crysis. It will start supporting both PC and console.
That will be good news for console gamers in general, who can now look forward to future Crytek games in their favorite machines. Don’t go looking for a Crysis port though. Yevat said that it is impossible without radically changing the whole game.

1Yup…and has nothing to do with the fact that only 1 in 5 of the PC gamers out there can play their game at anything above 15 FPS :-P

2I managed a reasonably solid frame rate on my laptop, but it is quite new, has a dedicated graphics card and 2Gb of ram. Even then, it didn’t play in anywhere near maximum resolution.

3I just installed a pirate copy. Seems to play OK, with the latest patches and auto-optimized for my machine. If the game play is any good, I’ll probably even buy it. ;)
FWIW, I generally *do* buy the games I pirate, if I get more than a few hours of entertainment out of them–I just hate having to pay for something to find out if it’s CRAP or not. Part of that is the tendency for PC game companies to ship out beta quality software, the other part of it is the tendency to ship out games that just aren’t very much fun to play…
