With all of the touchscreen madness going on, we wouldn’t expect many more innovations from past interfaces like the scroll-wheel or even the trackballs which only met a fair success with Apple’s Mighty Mouse.

This new concept MP3 player allows you to change the music or the volume of the player by rolling the trackball. What are the advantages of this? Well, like the iPod’s famous click-wheel, the trackball allows you to carefully choose what volume you want by scrolling the ball very little or a lot.
And if you place this player upside down on a table, you can change music or the volume just by rolling it on the table.
It looks like a very neat idea, and I hope that it actually becomes a real product.

1The BlackBerry 8100 “Pearl” (relatively recent) has a trackball interface as well.
