Geeks of Doom (home to my new favorite blog design in the world) has posted some info on the upcoming “Saviour of the Univese” edition DVD release of the 1980 camped out classic “Flash Gordon”. Like Dave3, I have to agree that, without the Queen theme, this movie wouldn’t be quite as cool, and I can’t wait to see both this new DVD release, and the “re imagined” series on Sci-fi later this year.

Flash Gordon is one of those franchise characters that has been sitting on the sidelines for FAR too long, and I can’t wait to see him back in the spotlight.

The DVD set is going to feature a cover by Alex Ross (pictured at left), and the following special features:

* An “alternate” collectible postcard of the packaging artwork.
* Alex Ross talks about his favorite movie of all time, Flash Gordon, and about how the film has inspired him in his life and work.
* “Writing a Class: Screenwriter Lorenzo Semple, Jr”: The Screenwriter speaks about the deliberately campy script for the film.
* Flash Gordon 1936 serial episode: Chapter One of Planet of Peril.
* Subtitles: English SDH, Spanish, French
