At least that is part of the argument the Ars folks throw at you and to be honest I couldn’t agree with them more. I got caught up in the hype when the initial videos were released, but delays always bring about doubts in you. But then again the original Half-Life was delayed numerous times and pretty much fell off the radar of every gaming publication around before it hit stores in Winter 98.

What worries me more is that Valve has a lot to live up to, since people are expecting Half-Life reborn, not just a sequel. So single-player game aside, the modding tools need to be perfect to draw people away from other engines, and from my perspective, with Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 running neck and neck, I expect people to favor id’s technology unless Valve shows us some nice modding close to Half-Life 2’s release date.
