Halo 3 Released Same Day As PS3
Monday, May. 16 2005 | Author: ScrivsA couple of months ago we reported about the rumors that Bungie was hard at work on Halo 3 to have it ready on the same launch day as Sony’s Playstation 3. Brilliant marketing strategy? Who knows, but it will make for an interesting week whenever that occurs.
Well the rumors are no more and this is indeed a fact as Bill Gates has reported himself in the Time magazine interview.
Note to the hard-core faithful: the next version of Halo will not, repeat not, be ready in time for the launch of Xbox 360. It will be part of the all-important second wave next spring. ‘It’s perfect,’ Gates says, radiant with bloodlust. ‘The day Sony launches [the new PlayStation], and they walk right into Halo 3.
I say that people will buy the PS3 no matter what if they want it and in the long run it won’t hurt sales. However, it might take away the initial hoopla that usually accompanies a system launch.

1Won’t stop me from buying a PS3, but it’ll probably mean one less PS3 launch title that I pick up. Of course that may not necessarily be a bad thing, it’ll give me some time to check out some reviews and not end up with another Untold Legends (PSP).

2Sony does not have a strong record of good launch titles anyway, so as with the PS2 people will buy it and then wait for the good games, as Brian said one less launch title, no big loss.
That said, Xbox and Sony fan(boy)s are loyal if they are anything, so the Halo 3 launch will probably not effect PS3 at all in the long run
Still I would hate to work in a Best Buy on that day…
P.S. who said Halo 3 will be released on time? That hardly ever happens anymore.

4rpg and mmorpg are the gayest thingthat was created by man in intirety. but fps (like halo, halo 2 and halo 3) is the best gametype ever who dosent like filling people with led and or plasma. and might i add any one who dosent agree will get a halo 3 shotty to the face.

5You know… I wasn’t going to say anything… console first person shooters (and they exist on all platforms) tend to be to slow for my taste, UT2004, Tribes 2 and Doom 3 spoiled me I guess.
With that said I am actualy on a RPG and MMO kick right now(KoTOR1 & 2, City of Heroes), they are not for everyone but I find them entertaning. mostly I think I am growing out of consoles… PC gaming for me is so much mor rewarding because part of it is building a box that can handle the games and then tweaking it to preform just right.
The above is strictly my opinion.

8OH MY GOD who are these tons of people then saying halo is repetative, FINAL FANTASY is repetative and how many of them are there now 10, 12. taking turns in a game is for sisiys who cant handle online multiplayer or a insane story mode id like to see some one who plays final fantasy or sum other rpg game play halo on legendery i have nothing against these’s games but i see no point in demanding that RPG are the only good game genre when there are loads of other good ones around

9Okay ChuckJones, I’m going to have to back Sparticus on this one. Although he failed to spell some words right, you did too. So, let’s not go there (it is “too,” not “to.”) Anyway, to say that Halo is repetitive is rediculous. On Halo there is a variety of actions available to the player, and there are so many more factors involved in the game. Besides the superior gameplay to RPGs, Halo has different modes and ways of playing it. YOu can play Campaign, Multiplayer, and Online. Online you can play team, double team, rumble, with just slayer, or other games like oddball. You simply cannot say that Halo is repetitive. I, personally cannot wait until Halo 3 comes out. That will be a great day.

10Post 3 mentioned Final Fantasy, well I am a faithfull Xbox boy and this week at E3 they announced the Final Fantasy Series coming to Xbox, along with the Grand Thief Auto series.(which is already on xbox)
so the only title of PS we(the xbox geeks) dont have is Socom, and Resident Evil. The only real downfall is the Resident Evil series, but how long before theycome around :), and I mean, we get Perfect Dark Zero as a launch title!!
Sorry PS fanboys, I think the PS3 is going to take a major butt whooping, we wont kill PS this round, but we will eat into your market share and bring many more titles over to the Xbox side

11Ok i admit it, i did spell that one word wrong, but it is my nature to defend final fantasy because i am offended when someone says that “Final Fantasy is dull” or “repetitive” when it is not, its exactly the opposite. If spartacus made any sense about which games he criticizes, he picked the wrong one. Like i said, final fantasy is not repetitive because all of them have started out from scratch, maybe even FFX-2. It is still the same gameplay(RPG), but the characters are different, storyline is different, the attitudes of the characters are special, and there are countless different things i could say, but just don’t know how to say it. When i said that halo is repetitive, you can’t say that it isn’t, because it has the same characters, the same shooting gameplay, the enemies aren’t any smarter, the missions aren’t very exiting, and the layouts of the enemies are the same, but the environment is very well done i’ll admit, but otherwise if you look at halo 2….the only thing that is “special” about it is…the dual-gun thing, some of the environment, the story is the same in a lot of ways, and all you do is “pump lead and plasma” into enemies(don’t get me wrong, i like doing that but it gets tiring after awhile). And yes i have played halo and beaten it, so i CAN actually say something about it.

13FF not dull…it’s as repetitive as anything. It goes “Take 20 steps. Randomly find a monster. Kill monster. Walk 20 more steps. Repeat.”
And you can’t say Halo is repetitive just because it follows the same plot. By that standard, Star Wars movies suck because they all follow the same story. It doesn’t work. Halo is telling a massive story with so many little intricacies that you don’t realize, it’s too big for one game. Final Fantasy, just keep Cid each time and don’t work toward a greater goal than killing the different uberbadguy. If the plots followed into each other, the plot could evolve, and the characters would become more universally recognizable because anybody that’s played any single game will remember that character. It’s stupid to say it’s repetitive after just two games, neither of which have the exact same plot. It’s a continuation of a story.
And AI does behave differently each time. But that’s not as important because when you play against other people, they’re smarter yet, sometimes smarter than you.
And in Halo 2, they’re upgrading things. Every FF game I’ve played plays the same way, with very little variation. In Halo 2, the updates change tactics entirely.
And I can’t see how pumping lead and plasma into your enemies can get boring if you’re used to swinging at them with swords in a way that takes no skill. FF games are slow-moving with fast music. Halo is just fast moving.
And if Sony even has a PS3, it’s graphics should be better than the Xbox 360’s, but not by an easily noticable amount. It’s less about number-cruncing, more about the finesse put into the graphics now.

14KOTOR 2 and the halo games are sweet HALO is fun cause ya shoot shit into aliens and KOTOR 2 is fun because u make ur own character and u pick what he is. Yo Final fantasy is DUMB!!! But HAlo needs some new stuff like a combat knife or BOts for multi. HAlo 2 gets boring if u beat the campaign 20 times. Multi would be awesome with a couble of Grunt BOts u can kill with a Energy sword :).

15thinking about it HAlo would be really fun if u had a giant field with trenches and turrets. And on the other side the covenants got the same thing and u jst chuck nades and wasted clips of ur duel smgs into some charging Hunters.

16Not to “rain on your parade” mr. sunshine, but Final Fantasy is not Dumb, I could say that about Halo and you know it. Halo 2 didnt start from scratch did they? No they didn’t, final fantasy always does, the storylines are way better than halo crap, and i can actually say something cuz i’ve played both genres of games, so its not dumb, the only thing acting up is you.

And you havent even played all of them, and thats why you’ve said “little variation”, because you don’t know or WANT to know the variation, its just your attitude. Clearly, Halo is not the best game, thats a fact, The statistics show that Final Fantasy VII was “possibly the greatest game ever made,” as it says on its back profile. Halo only got “game of the year,” FFVII got “Game of a Lifetime.” So add that to your halo crap and smoke it.

19Man, you guys must have no lives. yeah i play games like a hardcore person but rpg, fps and rts are all good depending on what game it is of course but i don’t see how you can just play 1 type of game and i think that halo 3 will impact PS3 sales because it is such a good game campaign and multiplayer

21the xbox360, because it is coming out first, will be the least powerful console. the ps3 will be more powerful even if they have to beef it up before launch to do so (although i dont think they will, as they have a seriously superior (technically, at least if they dont fuck it up…) machine to the xbox360.) if they werent then the console would crash. especialy at the higher price point. sony knows this.
the xbox will come out first and all the boxboys will be all look at that shit ps3 is crap how can they top that!
ps3 will come out and they stfu about it retorting with “yeah well, we’ve got halo 3 nyeh ;p”
the revolution is a wildcard here as noone knows anything about it and i fully expect it to seriously surprise us.
anyway, stop with the ‘my console is the best’ shit. wait untill they are all out and we will see what they’ve all have got.

28For my opinion im a big xbox fan, I never liked the halo series i think they suck, Im better off with a “real” game like half-life 2. Since its fun, amusing and not a rip off from the first. I dont know why poeple get so much upset when you talk to em about halo.
And since xbox was such a big success ill buy a ps3 SEE HOW HALO 3 WILL INFLUENCE BUYERS !f*ck it all! Im going for a super computer like console.

29I disagree with Stew. I believe Halo is the best thing to happen to the Xbox. I believe that the launch of Halo 3 being the same as the PS3 will affect a lot of gamers decisions and they will buy the Halo 3 game instead of the PS3.

32What do you get when you mix an excelent game with a crappy system? One damned lucky system. Spartan, you’re absolutely right but I need to add more emphasis. Halo wasn’t the best thing to happen to the Xbox. It was the ONLY thing to happen to the Xbox. It’s a statistical fact that Xbox would be dead right now if it wasn’t for Halo.
As for you idiots complaining that people are wasting their time arguing about video games and systems . . . If that’s the way you feel then why are you wasting your time reading and responding to it? Just a question.

33hey, I have taken a course where you can make games. Although they are terribly simple looking, it takes weeks to complete. Any game on the game consoles would take literally years to complete, even if they had a lot more people helping.
Halo, Final Fantasy, even Super Mario, are all great games, but you have to look at it in a different way. They all have the same goal: kill bad guys, save the world, or a princess or whatever.
I haven’t played any FF games, but from friends and others, I have learned that they are pretty good games.
I can’t wait to play Halo 3, or look at a Halo movie, if there is one. All in all, it’s about kicking monkey-butt. (I know the aliens aren’t monkeys) Instead of arguing about what game is better, what about the tactics used? Mine is kill everything with as many explosives as I possibly can. Other people sneak around the enemy, if they can, and reach their goal.
Now if you excuse me, I have to go play some Starcraft, with cheats.

35more than half of the PS game designers have jumped ship to xbox so that they actually have a system to develope their games on! the playstation has no chance because everyone will have bought an xbox in the absence of competition. for the record, halo 2 is one of the best games ever, but i don’t play it apart from xbox parties where we all hook up xboxs, just because i’ve over-played it already.

37ok all i have to say is that if u guys think halo is repetitive just try doing custom games, u could do anything with it… anyway i think ps3 should be pretty cool(even though im an xbox guy) but the 2 next- gen consoles will be about the same in performance. This is because a more powerful console would cost more money therefore drawing even more money away from ps3’s launch.. And for the final fantasy/halo argument i have to go with halo since final fantasy is getting to old for me and they need to throw in something totally new to bring in the new customers but thats just me:D

39i wish i came in earlier… final fantasy can pretty much be an ongoing kick ass game period. Whether or not they suit people who play xbox. Ive played both. And quite honestly, they are completely different games. You cant compare the two. You just cant. Each final fantasy is completely different, completely. The only thing that can get repetitive is the fact thats in an rpg. I think most rpg’s are alike in more ways than one. Considering this, all rpg games suck and are repetitive? no. So you guys that play halo, go ahead and keep being alien killer badasses, and we’ll stick to our cool story lines.
p.s FFVII was the best game ever created.. Which is why they are remaking it for ps3.

45PS3 is a pile of crap to meyeah the graphics are kick ass ( piss all over everything else) but theres no new stuff 2 it besides internet browser and 360 dosnt have any thing new graphics are good but the console cant handle it i buaght 3 xbox 360 and they all crashed on sonic the hedgehog and dead rising so i dont think it could handle halo 3 itll just fry it up no the wii on the other hand know thats new i played red steal on it and it change the fps game system so much it was incredible in my opinoin
ps3 will sell mabey more then all

46errrr, i like the wii, and zelda t.p,(god thets a good game) but i must say, i prefer halo to turn based rpgs(ff)….zelda aint turnbased. i dont think that halo 3 will deck in all other games tho!!!!! i mean come on. mabe itll kick all sci fi shooters. (metroid 3 aint a shooter. it more of a scanny scanny killy killy bally bally kinda cool thing) but when you look at all the other awesome games out there, its not gonna stop any sales or anything.

48I have a PS2 and xbox and i think that halo and final fantasy are both great games but if i had to choose between them then deffernately Halo becasue of its gameplay. even though FF7 probs has the best story line ever. GUILD WARS IS AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on x360. I haven’t got PS3 or x360 im gonna wait and time will tell!!!!!!!!!
