HIS Releasing First PCIe x1 Graphics Card

Hi-Tech Information Systems Limited is poised to release the first x1 PCIe video card based on the ATI X1K chipset.

The first card, which is an x1300 512MB HyperMemory video card is being targeted at Dell, HP and IBM for systems that don’t have the bigger x16 slot which everyone is getting used to. You will also find dual link DVI and a quiet fan.

I am pretty excited about this, as there are still many motherboards that don’t have the room for the x16 graphics cards. The card will also include ATI’s AVIVO technology which improved playback of H.264 video. It should be available by the end of July for $119.

Wouldn’t this also be useful as second (or third) graphics card for systems whose x16 slot was already occupied? More-than-two-monitor setups are getting more common.

It is a good idea and the card boasts some pretty good specs. And Dan, the thought of having more than 2 monitors is fantastic. I can’t work on one monitor pc’s anymore. They bother me.
