Before the ESRB ratings were established, Nintendo of America took it upon itself to censor the content of its american games, since it was primarily aiming at a young audience. They removed blood from Mortal Kombat, removed any form of Cross or religious symbol, any nudity or sexual references, and even so far as to change any bars in a game to cafe’s instead.
Because of the ESRB ratings, Nintendo no longer censors games, as long as they are labeled with the appropriate ESRB rating for their content.

1Hehe, I like it. An actual reason to view ratings in a positive light.
I only really thought of how it dissalows certain people to view content before. But I hadent thought of how not having a rating systemk would dissallow EVERYONE from such content.

2Yeah, plus back then the market was mostly kids. Today those kids have grown up so the primary gaming audience is 18-34 adult males. Obviously kids still play games today, but now we have the rating system to supposedly stop them from buying or playing M rated games, though we all know that doesn’t really happen.

6I think nintendo should make a super smash bros for the DS. This game should have new characters like Wario and Toad, from Mario, and Sora and Rikou, from Kingdom Hearts. send a responce to hilburger@charter.net
