As I posted earlier today, Google is exptected to release a chat client within the next few says (although most sources point to Wednesday). However, there are already scores of people making use of the Google Jabber server at talk.google.com in their chat clients (GAIM, Trillian, Adium and iChat).
Here is how to do it.
Server: talk.google.com
Username: youremail@gmail.com
Password: yourpassword
The server seems to be going up and down randomly.

1It would be interesting if Google did make a jabber client, as their apps tend to be pretty user friendly and jabber is quite a nice messaging protocol.
Maybe it could go somewhere with google backing it.
Oh yeah, nicest thing about Jabber is it doesnt matter whose server you connect to, you can still talk to anyone on another jabber server.

2It would be interesting to see a Jabber plugin for Google Desktop. I already use Firefox Live Bookmarks less and less thanks to GD’s RSS reader… Now all we need is Google Browser and Google OS.
Maybe Google PC!

3Now if the J2ME jabber clients would actually work with Google’s server…
