This tiny PC fits in your car’s dash, where a CD player or cassette player would normally go. It runs on a small version of Linux, and can play movies, MP3’s, Ogg Vorbis files, basically anything a regular desktop PC can. The device uses a flash memory drive rather than a spinning hard drive in order to protect the data from being damaged if you hit a bump while the discs are spinning. This limits the space slightly, but I’m sure there are alternative solutions to get more storage into or connected to the device.

The screen choices are basically left up to you, as you can hook up any kind of input or output device to the machine since it has all of the standard PC connectors on the back.

The author of the site is selling pre-assembled units on his site for around $500 for a maxed out unit, or you can download the sketches and schematics from the web site and build one yourself.

There have been several of these in-car PC projects popping up lately, but this if the first one I’ve seen where you can easily duplicate the device for your own vehicle without completely ripping your car apart.
