I love monster movies. Since I was kid I’ve been a big fan of Godzilla movies. I loved Godzilla vs Megalon (with Jet Jaguar and Gigan as supporting characters) and I am one of the few people who actually loved the Roland Emmerich re-imagining of Godzilla.
JJ Abrams is also hard at work with his new monster movie, Cloverfield. This is the movie I am really excited about. From the first tantalizing teasers I knew Abrams has stumbled on to a hit. Told from the perspective of hand held cameras (a la Blair Witch Project) I am pretty sure this movie is going to kick major ass. Abrams himself is quite stoked about the project. During the recently held ComicCon he said that the United States does not have a definitive monster movie, which the Japanese have in Godzilla. Abrams’ aim is to give that new mythos to American pop culture with Cloverfield. I am hoping that the guy will actually succeed.

1Ok, so if this a monster movie, ala Godzilla style, couldn’t they come up with a better name than Cloverfield? That doesn’t sound like a monster movie name to me. Sounds like a movie with a bunch of old ladies sitting around a table sipping tea and eating crumpets.

2Maybe the monster is some giant Irish drunk guy? And he says “kiss me, I’m Irish” one too many times and Liberty’s head falls off.

3I think “Cloverfield” is more of an unofficial title at the moment… I could be wrong though.
I also like the Roland Emmerich Godzilla.
