Well this is certainly something different. Mountain Dew (in many circles considered the geeks drink of choice) is having a beta test for their new beverage Mountain Dew X.
They require that you put in a company name and title, which seems a little absurd to me, but names can be quickly made up. After signup you will receive a page telling you that your product will be shipping out shortly. I’ll let you know how it is once it gets here or you can just go signup for yourself.

1So… Has Google bought the rights to Mountan Dew from Pepsi Co.? If so will this product ever leave beta, or will it be avalible free as long as you keep signing up for this offer.
…I woke up one morning and realized that the people at anime\sci-fi conventions and lan partys are no longer my fellow sci-fi fans\ PC enthusiasts, Mountan Dew “betaing” a beverage is just another sign of the way things have changed.
I just want to be able to have a convesation about my hobbies in the places I like to go, or the games I like to play(I only realy chat with the people I know but still) without being labled a geek or laughed at… is that so wrong?
…Novel concept I guess definatly worth a laugh, even if only because it is a blatant attempt to cash in on gamer culture… and I may be one of the very few who see it.

2On the upside at least they aren’t charging YOU to be a beta tester as so many companies have.

3“Want to get the hook up?”
Eesh.. sounds like they’re dealing drugs. And they call this new drink “beta” too.

4Well maybe it still has bugs… I just hope it doesn’t cause a “fatal stop error” .

5Is it just me, or is MD a few years late on the “name your product something X because it’s cutting edge and cool” train?

6Pepsi Co. always seems to come off as a “me to” company, a few steps behind Coke…

7Do you think they could ship the drink to England? I hope they ship it to me!

8First off, people that got a REAL beta invite, and didn’t just make up fake info, know that the drink isn’t called Mountain Dew X - that’s the code name. Mountain Dew X variant 516 to be exact.
Second, this was a closed beta for game industry professionals attending E3 (thus the need to enter your company name and title). I wouldn’t count on getting anything unless you truly were invited into the beta.
I’ll let you guys know how it is.
