New UMPC by Kohjinsha

Japanese company Kohjinsha is set to release their own UMPC device which features one of those craved 32GB SSD flash hard drive disks and a tablet/laptop form which should make it versatile enough to use in various different situations.

As for it’s specifications:

INTEL A100 à 600MHz CPU (which is nothing more than an Intel M @ 90nm), the chipset is a 945GU Express, 7 inches widescreen (1024×600), 1GB RAM, 1.3MPx webcam, BlueTooth, WiFi…all for 953 grams

The specs are a bit low if you intend on running Vista, but if you install Windows XP on it, it should provide you with very decent performance and allow you to multi-task much better.

Those specs may be a bit low for running Vista, but they are huge overkill for running Linux. In the interest of avoiding unnecessary specs, I’d love to see them drop the RAM to 256MB.

I was just wondering how much this thing is going to cost… So I checked the firm’s website: The basic model (without MS-Office Suite) will cost around 1200,- Euro / 1700,- US-Dollar. That’s bloody expensive for my taste…
