Apple insider has decided to say what no one else has the courage to. It appears that the Mac Mini is dead, and will soon be removed from the Apple store. Although they have good reasons for it, I find it too awful to be true, since it’s a little “wonder”.
Since then, the Mac mini has been treated to a rather mundane life-cycle. It has seen just four updates since inception, one of which was so insignificant in Apple’s own eyes that the company didn’t even bother to draft a press release. Even now, the current minis’ 1.66GHz and 1.83GHz Core Duo processors are a far cry from the silicon offered in the rest of Apple’s PC offerings.
Although I can’t argue with that fact, I still hope that Apple will continue to have a place for the Mini i their lineup. It makes perfect sense from a commercial point of view. They have an entry level iPod (the Shuffle) that goes all the way up to the video iPod, in the same way that they have a Mac Mini which leads all the way up to an iMac or a Mac Pro.

2Hope it’s not going to die for good, I just bought a 1.66GHz version of the Mac mini and I really love it. Let’s hope they replace it at least with something with the same price, or cheaper.
