Sony has announced today their latest laptops that are headed to the Japanese market.
These are perhaps their answer to the recently released Apple MacBookPros.

This first laptop is Sony’s SZ series which will replace the current Sony S series laptops, so it fits under the ultra-portable/powerful category for laptops, and it can make a decent gaming or working machine. What’s new in this current laptop?
Well, besides the new Dual Core Processors, it seems to have a new “VAIO hard disk protection” (mind you, this name came from Google’s translation of the original page) to protect the HD from impact (hmm, like the Powerbooks?). As for the graphics card it will be either a 945GM Express or a GeForce Go 7400 and the screen a 13.3″ WXGA one. And despite this not being announced yet, it seems like this laptop has a webcam on the top (hmmm, where have I seen this also?).

This one is the F series and seems to be like a upgraded version of my current laptop, only more TV based. It packs a 160GB HD, a new graphics card and a 15.4″ screen that packs a 1280×800 resolution (great for DVDs).

1I hope you’re not trying to suggest that any laptop that has a camera at the top of the screen is copying Apple, since they were hardly the first to do such a thing…

2No I’m not, and Sony has had cameras on top of their screens before also. But I am suggesting that Sony does make decisions and releases similar to Apple.
If you’ve been accompanying Sony’s releases for a while you’ll see that when Apple announces a new product, Sony will also announce a new product (of the same type) a few days after.
It happened with the Nano, it happened with the iPod Video, and now it happened with the MacbookPro.

3that is really weird. but in order for sony to be copying apple and releasing similar products so soon after apple, wouldn’t they have to know exactly what apple is going to release ahead of time?

4also, i don’t know how many other laptops have had cameras on them before, but acer’s dual-core laptop was announced the week before the macbooks and it had a camera on it as well.

8Sony just put up two new laptops SZ and FE on sonystyle.com. The SZ seems to be the same as the Japanese version but the FE doesn’t seem to have TV support but does include MCE 2005 for some reason.
