Sony has recently released the 2.01 Firmware Security Update that adds no new features but blocks your ability to run homebrew software on it, and that includes downgrading it.

I don’t think anyone will update for quite a while but I just thought I’d let you know there’s an update out that does literally nothing for you other than blocking some of the PSPs potential (I thought patches were supposed to add features to a system, not disable them).

Some people from the hacking community upgraded their PSPs and attempted to downgrade it. Some rumors started spreading saying that you could boot the tifs from the Music folder instead (since the overflow bug was fixed in the image folder) but it turns out the rumor is false. Or at least no one has been able to prove otherwise yet.

So to put it short, you can’t run homebrew software on this new version and there is currently no way for you to downgrade it yet. So if you want to get into the homebrew scene don’t update.
