Just when you thought the DVD format was on it’s last leg (in terms of the approach of new formats) Sony goes and surprises everyone with it’s first DVD Walkman. But, what exactly is this DVD Walkman?
Well, basically it’s just a portable DVD player with the typical functions and…
It supports DVD±R/RW, DVD+R/-RW DL and CD-R/RW (MP3 and JPEG) discs.
It also comes with a speaker cradle that doubles as a charger (Sony sure loves docks…)

The player is fine and nice looking, but shouldn’t Sony be more worried about their dying UMD format or the newborn Blu-Ray before giving support to DVD?

1No. What’s wrong with UMD?
Everyone has DVD’s. Its not like when Blue Ray disks become comercially available, everyone will throw out their DVD collection. I mean, most people still have VHS cassettes, Cd’s and audio tapes. Hell, we even still have vinyls.
