The Macbook Air is finally here.
Weeks of speculation has finally been confirmed when Steve Jobs unveiled what is purportedly the thinnest laptop on the planet. I have to say that devil Jonathan Ive and his team of malevolent industrial designers have done it again — design a machine that elicits both lust and envy. I am quite impressed by how the Macbook Air looks and I bet it would be a joy to use.
I’m just not impressed with the specs. I have to say the Macbook Air’s specs are compromised because of the limited space for other peripherals. There is no DVD drive, only one USB port, a slower processor speed, a non user replaceable battery, non user replaceable hard drive and non user expandable RAM. Those are a lot of caveats, which really makes this a laptop for non power users and not a replacement for the Macbook Pro.
Despite all of these niggles though, I am pretty sure the Macbook Air is still going to sell like pancakes.

1sure it’s not intended for the power users.. and sure it’s not a replacement (or even an equivalent) for the MacBook Pro.. it’s a new design for the MacBook, and i might as well add the word FANTASTIC to it.. having a multi-touch trackpad, a micro-DVI that can connect to almost anything with the right converter, the capability to use optical drives from a remote machine wirelessly, and the fact that you get all that in a 1.3kg portable model-like mac.. c’mon..
Apple just keeps impressing :)

2The multi-touch trackpad is really cool. Hopefully Apple will release an upgrade for all laptops to use this feature.

4What good is a .10 inches less in thickness if the computer specs are crap?
Another case of style over functionality
