The Piratebay, one of the world’s most popular bittorrent trackers which distributes hundreds of gigabytes of programs and media every day was recently hacked. This means that the perpetrators now have in possession the usernames and passwords of thousands of users, but according to the site’s administrators, all of the information is encrypted, so they won’t be able to read it easily.
Still, if you have an account there, it is encouraged that you change your password, and if you use that password on other services, you should also change it in those websites. Although this doesn’t mean that the RIAA or the MPAA will come knocking at your door very soon, if you were an uploader of illegal files, I recommend you stop doing it indefinitely, or at the very least for a while.
