“Hey Darlin’ I’m just heading off to the office!”, you exclaim. If I were you and if this was your office, I’d say that line everytime. What a wonderful place to work in! This lead comes from here and here. This is so huge a project that you just gotta think what it’s for. Well, I’ll cut the chase to say that this is in Beijing, a few miles away from a major Olympic event. Ok, now you’re saying… it’s gotta be the Olympics for sure.
From Gizmodo, “The GreenPix Zero Energy Media Wall, designed by Simon Giostra & Partners and Arup, uses thousands of solar capture cells attached to each of its glass panels to charge up during the day and then release dazzling light shows at night. It’s the first time perforated photovoltaics laminated in glass have ever been used in a building in China, but if all goes off without a hitch, it most certainly won’t be the last.”
And from Technabob, “You can read more about the project over on the GreenPix website. (Check out this nifty simulator application if you want to get a better idea of how the display works).”
You gotta just admire the Chinese… they want to do it really big. The Olympics is such a huge world-wide event that the mere thought of having a huge audience will make you think twice to be thrifty at this time. Noooo… you spend all you can, trusting the Olympic audience to surely take notice. If you’ve got products to sell… the Olympics is your biggest stage.
