ExtremeTech compares the ATI Radeon X1800 XT, against the nVidia GeForce 7800 GTX and in the end the ATI card comes out on top. This makes me especially happy since the X1900XT should be an even stronger performer against whatever card nVidia comes out with next.
For now, we can say that ATI is the clear video winner, but whether that matters to you personally depends largely on what video-related tasks you use your computer for. If all you do is watch downloaded clips and movie trailers, both ATI and Nvidia’s hardware will give you a very similar experience. If you’re a hardcore video nut that is willing to jump through a few codec and player-related hoops, and if you have a lot of funky DVDs or watch a lot of TV on your PC, ATI is clearly the better choice.

One Response for "Video Shootout: ATI vs. Nvidia"

1I’ve always been a an ATI fan, ever since I got their 9700 Pro, but when I built my new rig, I had to reluctantly switch over to Nvidia’s 7800 GT. I’m not in anyway dissatisfied with the gaming performance of the car card (except for it’s video de-interlacing, which SUCKS ASS) but I’m dissapointed that Nvidia won’t unlock the de-interlacing stuff without my having to pay an extra 20-30 bucks whereas ATI does it for free. And it looks like ATI does it better.
