If you’re a Mac OS X user, then there’s a cool Movie-to-ASCII converter out there. ASCII is just a complicated way of saying text. When we’re done the output is going to look something like this:

This is from the first Seinfeld Episode.

  1. Download the file here.
  2. Go into the Finder and press Apple + Option + G, in the window that pops up type “/usr/bin”. Then press enter.
  3. Go into the folder you downloaded, and there should be a black rectangle icon, drag that into the /usr/bin folder.

Using the program:

  1. Drag the movie that you want to watch your Desktop.
  2. Open up Terminal which is located in Applications/Utilities.
  3. In the Terminal type “cd ~/Desktop” then type ASCIIMoviePlayer themovie

You’ll be able to hear the sound, and your results in terms of quality will vary.
