Microsoft has released Beta 1 of WinFS, and has created a blog to track its development and features. Seems like they have the big names behind WinFS writing what is going on under the hood of Microsoft’s new file system.
Our Beta 1 release is a preview of WinFS, Microsofts platform that allows developers and users to unify, organize, and explore data in ways they couldnt before. WinFS is a critical piece of Microsofts integrated data initiative. (Integrated data initiative is a term used to refer to a group of technologies whose goal is to provide better integration for data, since much of user data is locked in individual application silos).
I will not be getting Vista to be able to use WinFS, as it will be available for Windows XP as well. Hopefully it will be as good as they have hyped it to be.
