With the new war ignited between Intel and AMD, and AMD’s recent move to aquire ATI, it is no surprise that AMD is taking every move it can to try to come out on top of the new battle. Their latest move has them dropping prices by as much as 47% on their current generation of CPU’s.
Processors like the Athlon 64 X2 4600+ which were around $558 before the price drop can be found for around $240 per unit now.
It will be interesting to see if the new pricing helps them beat back Intel with their new Core 2 Duo chips, and their upcoming Quad-Core CPU’s.

2I don’t know if the previous comment was meant as a joke, but I sort of share the same sentiment.
I’ve never felt too attracted to AMD processors, mostly because of experiences my friends had with them and things I witnessed myself from their early years.
I know they’ve improved a lot since then, and I don’t ignore them at all, but it seems that at the time I chose to buy a laptop, their processors were and still are far superior to AMDs, in terms of energy consumption and the heat it generates.

3For a laptop, I would recommend an Intel chip, but I love my AMD Barton 2500+ in my computer.
Also, if you look at the desktop line, I think you’d be surprised at the heat Pentium 4’s put off…
