Chinese Internet Cops

In a desperate move made by China, the internet cops (image) working for the government decided to redirect all the Chinese traffic coming from Google Blog Search, Yahoo, Microsoft Live, and YouTube, to a (censored) Chinese search engine called Baidu.

It is not the first time that China blocks specific sites, and I bet it won’t be the last. Back in March it was LiveJournal, and the Chinese version of Wikipedia had some troubles too, in 2006.

As always, you can check the virtual Great Wall Of China, to test if a website is accessible on China, or not.

Reasons for redirecting traffic from 4 major websites:

- Economical
- Censorship

You decide - Is it because of the money? The censorship? Or both?

Can you image the number of visits that Baidu must be receiving? I can’t…
