eBay removes all “virtual property” auctions

If you were hoping in buying that new Burning Crusade epic sword on eBay this weekend then think again.

I spoke today with a media representative for the company, who confirmed that eBay is now delisting all auctions for ‘virtual artifacts’ from the site. This includes currency, items, and accounts/characters; not even the ‘neopoints’ used in the popular Neopets service is exempt from this decision.

Unlike other games, like Entropia, which allow you to acquire money, eBay seems to be heading in the opposite direction. Does this mark the end for Chinese farmers, or will a new platform auction emerge for virtual items? I smell a gil-maker coming on.

I know for Eve Online a lot of Chinese and Russians sell ISK. This will suck for them

I agree with eBay’s decision. This ‘virtual’ stuff situation was getting out of hand.

It had to happen eventually.I look forward to being able to play a damn game without having to deal with someone trying to make a buck.

I am not saying people don’t deserve money or gainful employment, but these “farmers” are not really contributing anything back to the world all they do is part fools from there money and that has almost never been a sustainable business model.

The Virtual thing was really going out of control. There are many “virtual” stuffs that can stay, but at this moment, there is no time to sort out those. I don’t know what next action of Ebay would be. Lets hope its for the good.
