Neowin has a few screenshots from the next version of Office. It is expected to Beta sometime this year.
A new feature named “galleries” gives users a visual representation of the kinds of formatting choices they can make in their documents. The galleries also offer live previews in many instances, so you can see exactly what the document is going to look like before you make the choice, which makes it easier to experiment and change content.
I personally think they are going in the wrong way with their GUI design. First IE7 now this? What are they thinking?

1I quite like the design of the window chromes, but the way it works as a whole is more than a little messy.
I think it needs some extensive refining, but I like the overall look.

3Wow. That’s a lot of stuff on-screen at once.

4It could be nice! Just remove the icons right after the menu, and make the toolbar more uniform.

5I like it a lot. Yeah it’s a lot of stuff on the screen at the same time, but it looks like it’s collapsable or only on the screen when certain tabs are selected.
