As the days until the release diminish, so do the PS3 launch numbers it seems. Sony continues to have problems with component shortages, so, instead of having 100.000 consoles available at launch, it will only have 80.000.

IGN reports:

The lack of digits in that number is even more staggering when you consider that the PS2 sold out of nearly a million units when it launched back in March of 2000. Having lived through a few weeks of attempting to obtain a PS3 pre-order, we’re not too surprised by the lowered shipping numbers. Allocations disappeared quickly at online retailers that were brave enough to start pre-order programs.

Looks like things are looking brighter with each passing week for Sony’s console competitors. Is Sony is right, and the consumer market “doesn’t care”, or will these cuts and continued streak of broken promises, be influential in determining the console’s fate a few months from now?
