Although the source marks this as a rumor, I have read various confirmations therefore I think that it’s safe to assume that this really works. All you need is an NTSC Gamecube game.
Yeah… unfortunately Wii owners need to apply special hacks in order to get their imported games running on their systems, but I’m surprised that Nintendo let this mistake slip. Just remember to be careful before updating your Wii to the latest firmware next time, as it will probably fix this.

1It does indeed work although using the swap trick to boot a Freeloader 1.06 and then to boot your import seems to fix a number of graphical issues some of the games have.
