A great advertising idea, that is actually working, as a student continues to rake in money on his website: milliondollarhomepage.com/.
An entrepreneurial young student in the UK has devised a simple way of raising the cash to pay for life through university without having to spend every weekend in Tescoâs stacking shelves.
Called the Million Dollar Homepage, the idea of the site is to sell 1,000,000 pixels for $1 each.
Visitors can buy pixels, which are available in 100-pixel ‘blocks’ (each measuring 10×10 pixels) and then display an image/ad/logo of their choice in the space they have purchased. Customers will also have the chance to link the image through to a website of their choice as long as its not obscene or offensive.
The pixels you buy will be displayed on the homepage permanently for the life of the site.
The creator, Alex Tew, is 21 years and old hopes to keep the site running for at least five years, but hopefully much longer with the ultimate goal of making it âa kind of internet time capsuleâ.
Currently the site has sold over 52,300 pixels earning more than enough to put Pew through university.

1Its just frustrating I didn’t do it first, really.
It does occur to me that as sites take all the ‘prime’ positions such as corners and near the center I suppose the percieved value of the space will go down and people won’t want to buy space on it once its overcrowded.

2Yeah, it’s $1.00 a pixel, but you have to buy ten pixels for one square. Spending $5.00 for five squares would be nice, but five squares will cost you $50.00. I know I would rather spend that money on something else.

3“Yeah, it’s $1.00 a pixel, but you have to buy ten pixels for one square.”
Isn’t it 10×10 = 100 pixels per square (USD100)?

4What I’d like to know is how he ended up attracting his customers. I mean, I could open up milliondollarhomepage2.com and sell each pixel for 50 cents but its highly unlikely that I’ll make the kinda money he’s made.

7“Own a piece of internet history!” Jesus… is a tag-line really all you need to make some quick dollars.
Or are people really that stupid?
Personally, I’m betting on the latest, most stupid ideas and politicians prevail because there are stupid enough people to back them up.

8I figure it’s worth a shot. My idea is to sell squares on a map of the US to sort them geographically, and make a map of cheaper squares for personal web sites.

16Maybe it’s time to write about TheMillionDollarHomepage and hundreds
of its silly copies?
It’s like a new phenomenon. Copies looks really silly but the original
is fantastic and creative idea.
Such as parody-sites like: http://www.one-pixel.tk

17Yes I thought it was a great idea, and I am a copy cat…but I expanded the idea to include affliates, and profits, since I am already a third year student, will go to build a house some friends and I designed that we beleive will withstand tsunami and hurricanes, and will be submersible. It will happen even if this page and other efforts fail, because I just won’t give up!!! So please don’t hate us all because we follow in Tews footsteps…some of it might help society also. Luv xoxo Meg

25I give Alex Tew full credit for this pixel ad craze. I have also started a page called “Million Quarter Billboard” but with a twist. I will be giving away 50 4G Apple Nanos for ad buyers! For every 10,000 pixels sold (or 100 blocks of 10×10) I will draw for a winner. There will be a total of 50 given away. Limit 1 per person or business so more people have a fair chance. Each block of 100 pixels is an entry for a chance to win. Buy 1 block you get 1 entry, buy 4 blocks you get 4 entries. So you will not only get some cheap advertising but a chance to win a Nano! I am doing this site to help my family as I am no longer able to do construction as my high blood pressure and very weak heart limits me to what I can do. I have 4 children and need to pay off debts as well as raise them so any money helps. You can visit my site at www.millionquarterbillboard.com
Thanks! Brian

31Ok, how he sold all those pixels is really no mystery, he had a PR rep help promote the site. Marketing 101 folks - he generated enough buzz to sell almost 650,000 pixels. Looking at all the copycat sites that have popped up, I doubt any will be very successful unless they are willing to make the same type of investment and have a novel concept. Of those out there about the only one that even caught my attention for more than a fleeting second was the pixel challenge at http://www.thepixelchallenge.com. Million pixels in 30 days? Doubt they can do it, but if it LOOKS like they can then they may just generate the same kind of buzz.

36Jobless Boy Launches A Website To Sell 10,000 Jeans On The Internet!
USA jobless boy has set his sights on earning himself a million dollars after thinking of a simple idea of selling brands new and used jeans on his homepage MoneyOrBox.com
He had been thinking of ideas on how to make a little extra money for himself but some of his ideas either never worked out or were just far too ambitious.
So far there are 28 jeans sold on the homepage which has netted him just $1300 but as visitors grow and more people hear about the site, no doubt more jeans will be added and he will progress towards his target of 10,000 jeans on his homepage and one million dollars in the bank.

40FORMULA FOR PRIME NUMBERS!
Some numbers have the special property that they cannot be expressed as the product of two smaller numbers, e.g., 2, 3, 5, 7, etc. Such numbers are called prime numbers, and they play an important role, both in pure mathematics and its applications. The distribution of such prime numbers among all natural numbers does not follow any regular pattern. A proof that it is true for every interesting solution would shed light on many of the mysteries surrounding the distribution of prime numbers.
Since the late 1960s, with the advent of computers, there has been a shift of focus from finding a mathematical formula to devise an algorithm that can test for primality of a given number. Testing of primality thus became an important problem in theoretical computer science. If an algorithmic solution to the problem posed is found, then an executable computer program can be written.
Check algorithmic solution here: www.moneyorbox.com

41I believe that Alex’s site still generates some indirect value for advertisers at least by improving their visibility in search engines. It has a PageRank of 7 and many still continue to add links to it (by the way, this article has just added one link). So, getting the link from website with such a high PageRank for as low as 1$ it is clearly a reasonable investment. Good luck to all the copycats :)
