Today’s most debated topic seems to be the resignation of the former Hollywood executive, Terry Semel, who has been running the company since 2001. According to some people commenting the subject, this was something that had to happen:
“This had to happen or things would have gotten nasty in a hurry, with people taking positions and pushing for change,” said Paul Kedrosky, executive director of the William J. von Liebig Center for Entrepreneurism and Technology Advancement at the University of California, San Diego. “I’m not convinced it’s enough, but it had to happen.”

Right now, Yahoo holds the second position, when it comes to web searching, but with the exception of it’s Flickr service, the company seems to be lagging behind it’s competitors in all aspects. Can an “aging” company like Yahoo! manage to stay up-to-date with the recent Web 2.0 startups, or will this change, and a possible overhaul, help save it from a merger or from being sold?
